There was only one way to take the photo. The sisters (Heather, Mimi, Bebe and Laurie) were placed in the same order every year: from the youngest to the oldest one.
In the first photo, the one taken in 1975, the sisters were 15, 21, 23, and 25 years old, respectively.
Only after taking the last picture (so about 40 years later) did Nicholas realize that his annual project deserved to be shared with the world.
He decided to publish the photo report, which he called “The Brown Sisters”, on an exhibition.
