4 Top Tips for Stay At Home Moms

If you’re a stay at home mom, you’ll know that it’s one of the hardest jobs in the world.

It’s hard to be with your child or children 24/7, there’s no way around it. It’s tough looking after little ones every single day, foregoing all socialising with other adults, giving up your job, and compromising your sleep and self-care at the same time.

It’s basically a 24/7 unpaid job.

Yikes.

But at the same time, it’s a blessing to be able to spend this time with your child or children. It’s an experience that will you cherish for a lifetime.

To make the most out of this precious time, here are 4 of our very best tips for stay at home moms. These tips are designed to help you enjoy your time without getting too overwhelmed or stressed so that you can stay healthy and happy throughout.

Make Sure To Get Out of The House Often

As I’m sure we all recognise more after the Pandemic, staying home 24/7 isn’t good for your physical or mental health.

Because it’s so difficult to go places with a baby or small child (you need a bag, nappies, bottles, wipes, toys, extra clothes, tissues, etc, etc), it can be easier to just stay inside most of the time as a stay at home mom.

But this makes the days monotonous and long.

It also impacts your general mood and anxiety levels.

Make sure that you are making time to get outside, even if it is just for a short while, every day.

Take a walk through the park, walk to the local shop, or simply walk around your block for some fresh air.

You’d be surprised at the lift it can give you.

Make Plans and Schedules

It’s easy for the whole week to blur into one long day when you’re a stay at home mom.

The best way to avoid this, and also to keep yourself from getting overly stressed and overwhelmed, is to make daily and weekly schedules.

They don’t have to be overly complicated, just mapping out parts of your day for different activities will help keep you motivated and structured.

Plan a walk for the same time every day, for example, and then you’ll always have something to look forward to, no matter how difficult the morning is.

Connect With Other Stay At Home Moms

Sometimes feelings of loneliness can crop up when you’re staying at home with your child or children, and sometimes we can feel guilty about this.

Should we feel lonely when our child is there?

Yes, it’s completely normal. It’s normal to miss other adults and adult communication.

Children are wonderful, but they can’t (yet) listen to us properly with empathy and mutual understanding.

Stave off your at-home loneliness by connecting with other moms in your position. Join groups either in real life or online, and reach out.

Having a chat with another adult who understands how you are feeling can be a game-changer.

Practice Self-Care When You Can

It’s easy to put your child or children first and forget about your own needs.

Keep yourself happy and healthy in the longterm by practising self-care whenever you can, even get your children involved when you can.

This could be anything, as long as it is something you find relaxing and calming and something that restores your mood and energy levels.

Even if you can take 10 minutes every day to take a moment to calm down and relax, you will see a big difference in your overall mood.
