When it comes to travelling with children, making sure you have all the right things packed in their bag is very important.

Being unprepared is a recipe for disaster.

You need to plan in advance and make sure everything on your plan actually makes it into the bag.

Here are our top 6 items you need to have in your child’s travel bag.

More Spares Than You Think You’ll Need

With children, there will always be spills, leaks and accidents.

Prepare for any eventuality by making sure that you have lots of spare everything with you and easily accessible in your child’s travel bag.

Anything that they are wearing when you start your journey needs to have 2 spares of the same item in your travel bag for them. 1 simply won’t be enough.

There is no limit to how frequently children can stain their clothes.

Make sure you’re prepared.

Wipes and Cloths

Again on the topic of spills and leaks, it’s important to have wipes and clothes handy in your child’s travel bag.

Sometimes toilet accidents will happen, sometimes their face will be a mess after eating, and with COVID you probably want to be extra careful with cleaning little hands anyway.

Having these in a very easy to grab place in your bag is the best way forward.

Toys

Save yourself from any tantrums or meltdowns from bored children and have a few little toys ready for them to grab in your travel bag.

Children will get bored of the same toy quickly, so try bringing out one toy at a time and letting them play with that until they get bored, and then replace with a new toy.

This should buy you some free time and some peace and quiet for a little while longer.

If they are special toys to your child, make sure you do not leave them anywhere. Get into the practise of getting your child to pop their toy back into their bag before you leave an area to move to another. Lost toys are a recipe for tears.

No-Prep Snacks and Water Bottles

Stave off hunger by having snacks available that you don’t need to prep and that won’t make a mess.

Regular snacks will help your child stay happy and calm throughout your travels.

Keep water bottles in there too, not just for hydration but also for helping with any cleaning up of accidents you need to do.

Cuddly Toys For Sleeping

Bring your child’s safety or comfort toy with them to settle them throughout your trip and to help them sleep.

It will have all their familiar smells on there and will help them stay settled.

Again, make sure you do not lose this, and do not leave it behind.

Get into the habit of checking your child has their toy before you leave anywhere, and if you need to, put it on a lanyard or lead.

You do not want to land home without Mr Snuggles.

Medications

A great thing to bring with you in your child’s travel bag is regular medications they might need.

Child-friendly painkillers, anti-histamines, creams, plasters and anything else you might need in the event of a small sickness or injury.

It’s always easier to bring these from home rather than try to locate them in a new place.
